Thank you, it means a lot!
From ancient inscriptions to the most recent signs, typography creates the identity of the places we inhabit and experience daily. We are curating an in-presence workshop in Bari, Puglia, Italy, to re-discover the typographic heritage of the Apulian territory, providing the tools to recreate and build new letter-shapes in digital and analog form. Registrations close November 27, 2022.
Lately, we committed to updating a large portion of the Collletttivo font catalogue with the aim to standardise character support and polish a few rough edges. Following Halibut, Messapia by Luca Marsano is the next to go live!
On the occasion of the Milano Re-Mapped Festival by Pirelli HangarBicocca, SPRINT invited Collletttivo to extend Apfel Grotezk support to the neutral glyphs for Italian orthography, to make the typeface an even more porous communication tool for everyone’s needs (with special inclusive ligatures, try typing a/o, or e/i).
One apple a day keeps the doctor away; many apples double the weight! Apfel is now proudly available in Regular, Brukt and Fett cuts, retaining its joyful and playful attitude in this brand new bolder cut.
We are celebrating our 4-year anniversary with a little throwback to how things started and with the re-release of Mattone by Nunzio Mazzaferro – one among the first three tyefaces released on Collletttivo – after a massive rework and expansion towards a soon-to-be a 5-style variable type family.
“La Lettera Neutrə” is a workshop organized by Collletttivo in collaboration with SPRINT and Istituto Svizzero Milano on inclusive language and typographic experimentation. The workshop will be held in Istituto Svizzero, Milan the 16th and 23rd of January. Admission is free! Follow the instructions to join at the link provided above.
“Meglio qui che altrove” (Better here than elsewhere) is a collection of two hand-tufted rugs aimed to reconsidering our domestic spaces and creating a place of togetherness, play and discovery. The rugs are designed by Collletttivo and produced in collaboration with Hansel Grotesque.
Collletttivo is collaborating with Pittogramma magazine on their second issue, dedicated to unreleased student typefaces. If you are Italian, have an eye for type and are still bogged down in an old, dodgy and disconnected education system, click the link above!
This was teased a long time ago, but it's finally here. Travel back in time with Jules Durand's uncial-gothic free-interpretation of old Celtic lettering (+ extra secret style).
Collletttivo was invited to take part in the very special corona-talk “LiveTalkFrom”, organised by Italian designer Gianluca Alla. Tune in Monday 3pm CET to hear about the project and monitor the members' health conditions.
Matteo Maggi's Halibut Serif grabs all the attention again with a new pointy Light cut and variable support. Handle with caution (it's sharp!)
When Eric Gill’s lettering met 80's movie posters vibe, Sprat came to life. Ethan Nakache’s 18 styles family is also Collletttivo’s first variable typeface to be published. Play with it now!
An updated Type Family window now supports variable fonts and variation axes. Click on a typeface with the “Variable” pill to try it!
We discussed with Ayla Angelos –from It’s Nice That– about Apfel Grotezk Brukt, climate change and the role of graphic and type designers when it comes to spreading awareness. If you missed our presentation at SPRINT Milano, give her article a read!
Love it or hate it, doctors’ most recommended fruit is now a text typeface. Apfel Grotezk is available for free. Have a taste of its delicious ink-saving qualities.
Great news! Collletttivo will be SPRINT 2019 edition’s special guest. Come visit CLT table from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th to discover our exciting new projects and the new typeface released for the fair. On Sunday 4pm we will host a talk, do not miss it! If you’re planning a trip to Milan, come say hi!
You cannot pirate this one. Sara Lavazza’s Coconat is now out in Regular and Bold Extended cuts, free to download, use and distribute. AHRR!

Jyni Ong from It’s Nice That asks Collletttivo about the collective, their approach to typography and graphic design, Open Source and how Halibut, Ortica and Ribes were developed.

Halibut is Matteo Maggi’s first experiment in type designing, a sharp-seriffed contemporary calligraphic typeface inspired by the shape of fishing hooks. The family is released in 3 widths: Condensed, Regular and Extended.
All styles are now displayed inside “Typefaces”, reviewed try-it widget and new windows parallax effect.
A big thank you to Tilly, Timmy, Giordano, Trent, and Lili for including Mattone, Ribes and Mazius Display in their “All fonts look the same” exhibition in Wellington, New Zealand. Check our Instagram for a complete coverage of the event.
Alberto spent some time refining Mazius Display’s glyphset and it now features a wider language support, OpenType contextual alternates and swashes.
